2008 Farm Tour

MLT’s Farm to Farm Tour, held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 was a great success according to everyone who participated in the very full day. Beginning with a moving video on the Community Harvest Project at the Brigham Hill Community Barn in Grafton, the guided bus tour showcased several Blackstone Valley farms and highlighted the relationship between open space and farm land and the many social contributions made by our local farmers.

Metacomet Educational Programs

These photos are from the “Bug Safari” program held at the Salmon Early Learning Center in Northbridge, MA. In this program the preschoolers learned the parts of an insect, what an entolomogist does and how insects impact our world. We then went outside to catch, identify and release insects while learning about their different habitats.

Metacomet Land Trust also offers programs in recycling/pollution education and bird exploration. This summer join us at Purgatory Chasm in Sutton where we will partner with Ranger Kathyrn Parent of the DCR to present our “Family Adventure” programs.

Tom Wessels Program (October 2012)

Metacomet, the Friends of Upton State Forest, the Upton Cultural Council, and others sponsored a talk and walk at Upton State Forest by Tom Wessels, author of “Reading the Forested Landscape”.

Whitinsville Christian School Recognition

Whitinsville Christian School was recently recognized by the Metacomet Land Trust for its efforts to put in place several green measures to reduce paper use, recycle paper and plastic, and raise funds to construct wind and solar powered lighting for its parking lot. One of the efforts to raise funds for the project was to sell fabric grocery bags, which in turn reduces the use of plastic bags.
